Americans have done well in Olympic relay events, beginning with a victory in the men's 4 x 400 relay in 1912, the year that the two men's relay races entered Olympic competition. On the women's side, the U.S. won four golds and two silvers in the 4 x 400 from 1984-2004, including a solid victory in the '84 Los Angeles Games.
