Randy Barnes, 22.66 meters (74 feet, 4¼ inches). Jan. 20, 1989. Barnes set the world mark at the Sunkist Invitational in Los Angeles. The toss was his personal best - indoors or outdoors - at the time, although he later improved his outdoor mark.

Lance Deal, 25.86 meters (84 feet, 10 inches). March 4, 1995.

23. Heptathlon

Ashton Eaton, 6,645 points. March 10, 2012. Eaton began his record-breaking year by topping his own indoor heptathlon mark at the 2012 World Indoor Championships in Istanbul.

The performance would've set a world record, but the IAAF refused to ratify the mark due to insufficient post-race drug testing. Another American quartet - Kyle Clemons, David Verburg, Kind Butler and Calvin Smith - set the official world record of 3:02.13 at the 2014 World Indoor Championships.
