Competing in his first Diamond League meet, Jamaica's Usain Bolt was the premier attraction, and he didn't disappoint. Bolt won the 200 meters is a meet record 19.76 seconds despite a good, but not great, start. Bolt was the fourth-fastest of the nine competitors off the starting line, but had plenty of time to surge to the front and win easily. Bolt won a battle of Beijing gold medalists by defeating Angelo Taylor, a two-time Olympic champion in the 400 hurdles. Taylor placed second in a personal best 20.34, with fellow American Ryan Bailey third (20.43).
