Driving for distance

As Mike Powell flies through the air, his left leg will kick forward as he works for every fraction of an inch he can muster from his jump. Powell, who set the world long jump record in 1991, earned Olympic silver medals in 1988 and 1992. He won the 1996 U.S. Olympic Trials but an injury prevented him from competing for another medal.
