Shannon Rowbury: Standout at 1500 Meters

Shannon Rowbury won the 2008 Olympic Trials decisively in the 1500, in a time of 4:05.48. She improved her time to 4:03.58 in Beijing, finishing seventh.

Rising star:

Rowbury gained increasing attention in 2008 after running a then-personal best 4:07.59 in her first 1500 of the year in May, then lowering her PR to 4:01.06 two weeks later.

Duke-ing it out:

Rowbury won the NCAA Indoor one-mile championship and was the runner-up at 3000 meters for Duke in 2007. She missed the outdoor season due to a stress fracture in her hip. In 2005 she placed second in the mile at the NCAA indoor championships.

Versatile performer:

In addition to her success in the 1500, mile and 3000, Rowbury has competed at 800 meters, winning the 2001 National Scholastic Outdoor Championships and, more recently, placing fourth at the 2008 Prefontaine Classic. She’s also excelled at cross country, winning the ACC championship in 2006.
