The Diamond League held its final meets, in Zurich August 28 and 29, and in Brussels on Sept. 6. On the men's side, LaShawn Merritt repeated his recent World Championship triumph by beating Kirani James in the Zurich 400 meters to win the overall Diamond League title. In other Zurich action, Justin Gatlin finished third to Usain Bolt in 100 meters, but gained enough points to win the season title. Bohdan Bondarenko won the high jump meet and the overall title. Likewise, David Oliver prevailed in the 110 hurdles and Gerd Kanter defeated Robert Harting to win the discus throw meet and championship. Ayanleh Souleiman wrapped up the 1500-meter title by placing second to Silas Kiplagat. Conseslus Kipruto won the overall steeplechase championship by finishing third to Hilary Yego, while Aleksandr Menkov captured the long jump title despite finishing sixth.
In Brussels, Renaud Lavillenie won the pole vault event and became the first man to win four straight Diamond League season titles. Other competitors who earned Diamond League championships by winning in Brussels included Warren Weir in the 200; Mohammed Aman in the 800 (running a world-leading 1:42.37); Yenew Alamirew in the 5000; and Ryan Whiting in the shot put. Javier Culson won the 400-meter hurdles season title despite placing third in Brussels. Likewise, Vitezslav Vesely and Christian Taylor won the javelin and triple jump championships, respectively, after taking second in Brussels.
