Mohammed Aman's annual victory over David Rudisha in the 800 meters highlighted Zurich's Diamond League meet, held on Aug. 29-30. The Zurich event was part 1 of the Diamond League final, with the winners earning double points in the overall standings.
Aman beat Rudisha once in 2011, breaking the Kenyan's 26-meet winning streak. In Zurich, Aman ran an Ethiopian record 1:42.53 to edge Rudisha (1:42.81), giving Aman the overall Diamond Race season championship.
After losing two recent races to Carmelita Jeter, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce ran 10.83 to win the 100 meters and take the Diamond race title over Jeter, 19 points to 13. Other Zurich highlights included Usain Bolt's 200-meter victory in 19.66, although second-place Nickel Ashmeade won the Diamond Race with 15 points.
Other men who wrapped up Diamond Race titles in Zurich included shot-putter Reese Hoffa, Javier Culson in the 400 hurdles, Isiah Koech in the 5000 meters, high jumper Robbie Grabarz, Vitezslav Vesely in the javelin, Renaud Lavillenie in the pole vault and Christian Taylor in the triple jump. Women earning season championships included Valerie Adams in the shot put, Amantle Montsho in the 400 meters, Dawn Harper in the 100 hurdles, steeplechaser Milcah Chemos, Abebe Aregawi in the 1500 meters, long jumper Yelena Sokolova and Sandra Perkovic in the discus.
